What Foods Should I Avoid?

Are there certain foods that you feel okay about eating and other foods that you feel guilty after eating?

DO ANY OF THESE SOUND FAMILIAR?

“Don’t judge me for eating this cookie.”

“I’m so bad for eating this.”

“I really shouldn’t be eating this.”

“This is so unhealthy.”

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, “why?!” Why is eating a cookie bad? Why are you worried about being judged for eating something you want to eat? What does healthy/unhealthy actually mean? Are you actually bad for eating something?

When we place moral value on food, we experience guilt, shame, and regret for eating foods we deem as ‘bad’. You’re not good because of what you eat and you’re not bad because of what you eat. Food is just food. It’s there to nourish your body, give you pleasure as you taste and chew it.

Yes, certain foods have more nutrients and are more nutritious than others, but that still doesn’t mean you’re morally good for eating them or morally bad for eating something less nutritious.

Food is food. Practice taking away the moral value from food so that you can enjoy it without feeling guilty. Including a variety of foods in your diet will help you have lots of nutritious foods, foods that you enjoy eating, and you’ll feel satisfied. Let’s stop labeling food as good or bad.
